5th July 2014 in Arusha. Majengo Chini residents in Arusha district experience a bomb blasts just a few days after the start of the Muslims holly month of Ramadan.
In addition to this the police say they have gunned down three bandits on their mission to rob a ceramic centre.
The first incident according to the Arusha Regional Police Commander Liberatus Sabas occurred on Thursday night around 11PM at Sheikh Sudi Ally Sudi’s home, a resident of Majengo Chini suburb as together with his fellow Mhaji Kifea, a Kenyani national who he was having evening meal with.
The RPC said that the suspects are believed to have broken the window of Sheikh Sudi’s house and hurled the bomb device inside the house that exploded leading to the severe injuries to the two victims. The RPC said that the two victims were receiving treatment at the Mount Meru Regional Hospital and that no one has been arrested yet in connection with the incident.
“We are working around the clock to ensure that whoever is involved in these barbaric incidents is arrested,” the Regional RPC said.
Speaking at his hospital bed Sheikh Sudi described the incident as horrible as it happened at very late hours.
“The only thing I heard was a big explosion, after which I became unconscious, the injured cleric said adding that the incident might be planned taking into account that there were plans to shoot me down two weeks ago”
He said just three days before the bomb blast unknown assailants were already looking for his soul just after the mosque prayers and the incident has already been reported to the police.
The Regional Police Commissioner Magesa Mulongo as well as the Arusha Urban Member of Parliament, Godbles Lema have all condemned the incident calling it a barbaric act not to be tolerated in a civilised society.
Lema said the bomb blasts were giving a wrong image about the region which is well known as a world tourist destination.
This is a fourth time such an incident happens in Arusha in twelve months.
In another development, Police in the same region said robbers were gunned down at Njiro suburb as they were on their way to rob a ceramic centre producing roofing materials.
The 3 suspected robbers according to Arusha RPC Liberatus Sabas were said to be armed with a USA made short gun with registration number A947514M- pump action loaded with three ammunitions while driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number T762 CWE.
Sabas said the suspected robbers are yet to be identified but are estimated to be aged between 25 and 30.
